(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 29, 2011 ) New York, NY -- The action-drama movie, The Debt, is a remake of an Israeli movie of the same title in 2007 by Assaf Bernstein. The 2011 remake is directed by John Madden and written by Matthew Vaughn, Jane Goldman and Peter Straughan.
The Debt movie tells the story of a former Mossad agent, Rachel Singer, who had a secret Israeli mission to capture and put on trial the Surgeon of Birkenau, a Nazi war criminal. Rachel, together with two fellow agents succeeded in this mission. Or did that really happened? 30 years later, Rachel is still haunted by the memories of this particular event in her life. She goes back to Eastern Europe to uncover what really happened as well as deal with the debt she brought upon herself.
The Debt stars Helen Mirren, Sam Worthington, Jessica Chastian and Tom Wilkinson under Miramax Films Studio. The movie gained over $30 million at the box office when it hit the theaters on August 31 from a $20 million production budget. It scored a 76% approval rating at the Rotten Tomatoes website. Universal Studios Home Entertainment announced that The Debt release date for DVD and blu-ray is set for December 6, 2011.
