WittyCuisiner Tweets On Why A Pound Cake May Not Weigh A Pound

What People Say About Measuring Spoons

(Food-Beverage-News.Com, August 16, 2013 ) Denver, Colorado -- Pound cakes are originally from in Great Britain, and they are also known as madeira cake as well as sponge cake. People would have them during afternoon tea or as desserts.

So, why are they called pound cakes? They traditionally are made out of one pound of butter, one pound of flour, one pound of eggs and one pound of sugar, which are too large for most people or family.

The quantity of ingredients is adjusted and they can still be called pound cake as long as the ratio of 4 ingredients are kept to the same. Generally, a loaf pan is used for baking them.

In the United States, the cakes are very popular in the south where they are brought to casual gatherings such as potluck and picnic. The country has National Pound Cake Day, which is on March 4.

WittyCuisiner, which is a Colorado based kitchen tool company and recently launched its first product, kitchen measuring spoons, tweeted about the reason why a pound cake is named that way.

The spokesperson of the company, Evelyn Stewart, says, "We utilize social media such as Twitter to connect with our followers and love to provide lots of interesting food facts. It was a wonderful idea to share a little fact about pound cakes and it is always good to know the history of what we enjoy eating."

In Twitter, only 140 characters are used in each tweet and it is important to make the message short and to the point. The tweet the company posted begins with "eat a pound of this", which could create curiosity to the followers.

A link to a company's Facebook post follows the message, and the post shows an image of traditional British pound cake. On top of the image says, "Why Am I Called Pound Cake?" and it is answered in the comment section.

Stewart adds, "We always like to use images because people prefer them over a dull text block and they are much more engaging."

The tweet can be seen on the company's Twitter page and the images are shown on its Facebook and Pinterest page as well.
