(Food-Beverage-News.Com, August 08, 2012 ) Dothan, AL - Originally founded as a safe house for children of parents undergoing rehabilitation treatments, the Agape House strives to create a healthy and caring community for individuals throughout the Baltimore, Maryland Metropolitan area. Through a variety of services and programs, Agape House helps meet the needs of the disadvantaged while helping them gain the skills needed to become self-sufficient. Brief descriptions of the services and programs offered through the Agape House are listed below:
Educational Program: Agape House offers several educational programs and services for children between the ages of 5 and 18. Services offered include: after-school, weekend and summer enrichment activities, tutoring services, computer lab, meals, arts and games. In addition to providing educational services for children, Agape House also offers an adult support group that provides the opportunity for adults to learn from others while creating solutions to overcome their own situations.
Comprehensive Feeding Program: Through their food program, Agape House provides food for families, senior living facilities and Agape House shelter residents. In addition to providing food through their food pantry, Agape House also offers freshly prepared warm meals to those in need. Meals are provided on a weekly basis every Sunday at 12 noon and every Wednesday at 6pm.
Holiday Assistance: To help families experience the joy of holiday cheer, Agape House provides low-income seniors and single parent homes with free food to prepare Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. In addition to providing food, Agape House also provides toys, clothing and shoes for children each Christmas.
Emergency Housing: To help families regain self-sufficiency, Agape House provides emergency shelter to homeless mothers and their children. Families receiving housing through the program are assigned to a social worker who will assess the family’s need for services such as childcare, medical care, substance abuse treatment and counseling services.
Agape House Catering: To help inner-city and/or high risk adults obtain employment, Agape House offers employment through its social enterprise, Agape House Catering. In addition to serving as a job readiness program for employment in the hospitality and/or catering field, Agape House Catering also offers healthy and nutritional food prep classes, work ethic training and safe serve certification.
Rock-a-My-Baby Pregnancy Center: Recognizing a need within the community, Agape House created the Rock-a-My-Baby Pregnancy Center for expecting mothers experiencing hardships dealing with a planned or unplanned pregnancy. Through the Center mothers are provided with immediate assistance that includes guidance, spiritual and emotional support and referrals for basic needs such as shelter, food, clothing and information.
