"There is a difference between hypnosis for entertainment and clinical hypnosis. Most people are used to entertainment hypnosis, where the hypnotised subjects are asked to dance, sing, forget numbers or their names, imagine a belt is a snake, etc. for the entertainment of an audience. Now this can be fun for the subject, who has volunteered for this experience. However, some people sitting in the audience, who have not volunteered may see it as a humiliating experience and wants no part of it", Says Todd Stofka.
Clinical hypnosis is not entertainment hypnosis. Clinical hypnosis, for the most part, is serious business used to help a person change unwanted thoughts or behaviours resulting in stopping smoking, losing weight, relief from anxiety, etc.
