(Food-Beverage-News.Com, January 22, 2016 ) Portland, Oregon -- Every year, a student of Glenwood Middle School - Ellie Feaga holds a bake sale that earns thousands of dollars for charity and goodwill. The young middle schooler who is currently in seventh grade started this event when she was seven years old.
Since she started this event, Feaga has earned more than $20,000 which she gives to various charities. The idea came to her when she asked her mother about volunteering at Haiti in 2010 after the destructive earthquake hit the country.
Due to her young age Feaga was not capable of doing volunteer work. Her mother gave her ideas for other ways that she could help and because she was very interested in baking - she thought of doing a fundraising through a bake sale.
The first sale she held was a great success and she was able to collect up to $2,000 which she then donated to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund. Upon having achieved their first success - Feaga and her mother have made the bake sale an annual event and every year their collections grow in number.
Other organizations that Feaga has donated to include the Wounded Warrior Project, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, March of Dimes, and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
"It makes me feel happy and proud to be able to pull my community together and help people in need at the same time," Feaga stated.
To make her baked goods of higher quality, Feaga only uses the best baking tools and ingredients such as her stainless steel measuring cups, electric mixer, and fresh ingredients which she locally buys from nearby grocery stores. Her baked goods are also made fresh just for the annual event.
Feaga aims to accomplish more in the coming years and continue the tradition of helping the needy with her baked goods.
