Who: Josh McDonald is in high school, working a part time job, and starting a business through Amazon. With the support of his parents, Perry and Erin McDonald.
Their Business: It is all ran at home with the family computers, after everyone gets home from work. They have been selling the cooking thermometer on Amazon for a total of two months now. They are also working towards adding another product that they will sell on amazon along with the cooking thermometer. It is yet to be determined what they will be selling but it will be posted on the company's website within the next few weeks.
The 2k Goal: When starting the business they set many goals for themselves, including the 2k goal. What this means is that they have reached a point where they are producing over two thousand dollars a month, roughly five hundred dollars every seven days just by selling a cooking thermometer. There are many more goals they hope to reach soon like the 5k and 10k goal they have set for themselves.
Why an Cooking Thermometer? When he was deciding upon a product to sell he picked something he thought would help everyone in their daily lives. He also made sure he chose a product that millions of people are searching for every month. Josh states, "Whether you're in the kitchen cooking or you're outside barbecuing, you've got to admit, a multi purpose thermometer can always come in handy."
Making It Easy: Amazon's Seller Central gives anyone the ability to engage with hundreds of millions of their consumers. Josh says, "If you have a new or used product product that you want to sell from home, or if you want to create your own brand like we are and source from overseas, it is all within your grasp." Amazon can store product in warehouses, and from there they will ship it directly to the buyer. Starting a business has never been easier, and with the help of one of the biggest, multinational companies in the world, the opportunity to grow a successful, online business is within everyone's grasp, even at age 16.
