(Food-Beverage-News.Com, August 10, 2015 ) Foley, Alabama -- The 2015 Heritage Harvest festival will be celebrated on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Monticello's West Lawn, 931 Thomas Jefferson Pkwy, Charlottesville, VA 22902. The program is hosted by Thomas Jefferson Foundation in Partnership with Southern Exposure Seed Exchange. The main objective of the festival is to promote social awareness, gardening, sustainability, local food products and the preservation of heritage plants.
The event has a $15 admission up until 5 pm of September 10, 2015 and $20 on Saturday. For children between 5-11 tickets will be at $8 and child under 5 are free of admission. The tickets will be available at Piedmont Virginia community College starting at 8:30 in the morning.
The festival also provides showcase for the restored gardens and features Monticello's programs related to gardening, natural history, and food demonstration. The venue is located on the West Lawn of Monticello. On September 11, there will be a Friday Festival Opening night with the participation of the Beekman Boys.
During the event participants are given the chance to experience food tastings, hands on demonstrations, and garden tours and exhibits. The festival celebrates and will be featuring guest speakers and educators conducting workshops, garden classes, cooking demonstrations, and exhibition of heirloom foods and plants.
Organizers of the Heritage Harvest Festival will also be conducting educational programs related to seed-saving techniques, botanical medicine, sustainable agriculture, heirloom varieties, organic gardening, regional cookery, edible landscaping, and other aspects of sustainable lifestyle. Another group in the US called Victory Gardens also supports sustainable lifestyle and heirloom seed products.
The featured presenters are the Beekman Boys, Craig LeHoullier, Ira Wallace, Sandor Katz, Barbara Pleasant, Jeanine Davis, Kevin West, Paula Marcoux, Rachel Patterson of Relay Foods, Craig Hartman of BBQ Exchange, and Ellen Ogden. The Chef Demonstrations are facilitated by Kevin West on Food Preservation, Paul Marcous on Cooking with Fire, Rachel Patterson of Relay Foods, Craig Hartman of BBQ Exchange, and Ellen Ogden on Herbs and Aromatics.
