(Food-Beverage-News.Com, September 21, 2014 ) Oakland, CA -- To honor culinary experts and enthusiasts, the Finesseur kitchenware company has conducted a novelty survey to find if hand dominance—that is, being left-handed or right-handed—has an effect on being a great chef. With the final data currently coming in and being tallied, Finesseur plans to release the insightful results in the coming days.
Only 1 in 10 people—or 10% of the world's population—is left-handed, according to many studies. And out of this number, only a meagre percentage seeks out a culinary profession, and even a smaller number continue on to become chefs and cooks.
With this statistics in mind, Finesseur has set itself to the task of creating a comparison of culinary and knife-wielding skills between left-handed and right-handed chefs by surveying some of them. Guy Fieri, Jamie Oliver, and Rachel Ray are only three who hail from the right-wielding group. Despite the tiny probability of having lefty chefs, the world is still lucky to have some in the person of Gordon Ramsay and Heston Blumenthal.
The connection might yet be unclear now that the study is still on-going, but knowing that left-handed expert cooks like Chef Ramsay and Chef Blumenthal also delight people with their gustatory creations might show that the scale could be balanced.
Finesseur spokesperson Allison Montgomery also shares her two cents on the study's subject: "Being right-handed myself, I believe there's a great advantage in being able to use the hand that most of the world does in cooking. Left-handers face a bit more challenge, though."
The spokesperson also expresses her salute to kitchenware companies who cater to left-handed cooks with their mirrored knives, peelers, gadgets, and other utensils. She adds: "The salient point of fact is, the hands are only bodily extensions of a chef's desire and passion for cooking. I believe that with practice and the clear goal of satisfying others with food, left-hand dominance could become an admirable token rather than a hindrance."
For the study, Finesseur surveyed 30 known chefs of varying origins and specializations. The results will be out in the coming days and will be published on their Facebook page for their fans to check out.
