"The key is to work in a few simple tricks, and you can get through football season in pretty good shape," suggests Lisa Johnson, owner of Yummy Yammy, a Vermont business that makes sweet potato salsas.
"Most store-bought food has about four times as much fat, salt, and sugar than anybody ever needs," says Johnson, shaking her head. "Plus, this way you can avoid all the chemicals."
Also on the list: Invite more friends. After all, isn't the point to cheer on the teams together, and rate the commercials together? "It wouldn't be much of a party by yourself, so have more friends, and that will help you focus less on chowing down," says Johnson.
Her veggie-filled business may have something to do with her motivation to help people stay fit even through food holidays. She started it partly to help her family eat more nourishing sweet potatoes in their busy life.
"It's a lot easier than people think, to celebrate with a lot of great vegetable-based snacks. You can make healthful nachos, great nourishing appetizers, and fresh veggies are so colorful and festive. We want to enjoy the game, and enjoy the day after, too. Putting great veggies at the center of the plate can really be easy and delicious."
