Founded in 1980, Capital Area Food Bank responds to the hunger by annually distributing nearly 30 million pounds of food to more than 478,000 people through the help of their partner agencies in the Washington, D.C. area. This organization strives to uplift those in need by providing them with the best services possible. Capitol area food bank not only offers hand-outs but also provides classes on gardening, nutrition and cooking so people can become self-reliant and get out of the “need cycle.”

• Sister Hookup (approximately 300 Retail locations donate over 4 million pounds of food to food bank partner agencies annually)
• Food Stamp Initiative (SNAP)

• Grow A Row (home gardeners can donate fresh produce when they grow too much for themselves).
