ReNew Life Teaches Consumers About Digestive Enzymes for Physical Wellness Month

(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 16, 2009 ) Digestive enzymes and their role in a healthy lifestyle are often misunderstood or completely unknown to consumers. In light of April being Physical Wellness Month, health care product manufacturer ReNew Life Formulas, Inc. wants to bring digestive enzymes to the forefront. They are offering free information on what digestive enzymes do, where they are found, and what ailments they alleviate.

"Digestive enzymes are essential to overall wellbeing, from nutrient absorption to proper digestion," says ReNew Life's VP of Marketing, Bonnie Cooper. "Those enzymes are what what actually break down the food we eat. Without proper levels of digestive enzymes in the system, food can't be fully broken down. When that happens, not only does the body not extract all of the necessary nutrients from the food, but that undigested food ferments in the digestive tract causing gas, bloating, and other common problems."

People get digestive enzymes in several ways. Some are made within the body. Others are found in raw, unprocessed foods. Due to the fact that many consumers eat few raw foods, in favor of cooked and processed foods, they don't always obtain all of the digestive enzymes needed to break down the food that they eat.

While healthy diets and exercise can promote enzyme production in the body itself, the body can't produce all digestive enzymes needed. Cellulase and phytase, for example, are two digestive enzymes not made within the body. They are required to fully break down cellulose, phytates, and phytic acid. Many people suffer from a deficiency in these digestive enzymes, so their bodies struggle to break down various types of foods such as starchy beans, legumes, and nuts.

"People suffering from lactose intolerance are very familiar with the ways a lack of digestive enzymes can wreak havoc on the body," says Cooper. "Their bodies don't produce enough of an enzyme called lactase, which is needed to break down lactose molecules in milk. The lack of that single enzyme causes a variety of problems including stomach pains, bloating, diarrhea, and gas when lactose-rich foods are consumed. While many people choose to suffer those discomforts or eliminate foods they otherwise enjoy, there really is no need. Lactose intolerance, like other enzyme deficiencies, can be easily treated with digestive enzyme supplements."

ReNew Life offers a variety of digestive enzyme supplements including DigestMore and DigestMore Ultra to meet general needs for digestive enzymes. They also provide specialty enzyme supplements with enzyme combinations designed to address specific common conditions including heartburn, gas, PMS-related bloating, and lactose intolerance.
