Buttercream can contain 70 calories and 5 grams of fat for every tablespoon. Levy, however, suggests using nonfat whipped frosting.
"You can also sift powdered sugar to replace buttercream frosting, which only contains 30 Cal per tablespoon. When needing chocolate frosting, try melting 16 oz of bittersweet chocolate and one-fourth cup low-fat milk. Spread this on your cake or cupcake and enjoy a healthier alternative without changing the taste," Levy adds.
For egg requirements in a recipe, replace one egg with two egg whites or a quarter cup of egg substitute. This substitution is said to cut 60 Calories and 6 grams of fat on baked treats.
"You can also skip eggs altogether by mixing one-half teaspoon of baking powder, one tablespoon of water and one tablespoon vinegar. You can also replace egg requirement with mix three tablespoons of water and one tablespoon of ground flaxseed that it rich in omega-3," Levy continues.
