What is the HCG Diet Plan?

Typical Breakfast on HCG Diet Phase 2
(Food-Beverage-News.Com, April 07, 2014 ) Ontario, Canada -- Weight loss problems encompass all gender, race, and age. Obesity has about tripled among children and teens over the past 30 years. One in three U.S. children ages 2-19 is overweight or obese. The obesity rate for adults was 15 percent in 1980. Today, that rate has multiplied to 35 percent.

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, commonly known as HCG, is a naturally existing glycoprotein hormone produced by the human body during pregnancy. It was discovered in 1927 by Selmor Samuel Aschheim and Zondek Bernhard, both German obstetrician-gynecologists, who developed the Aschheim-Zondek test. The test helps confirm pregnancy by performing a blood test and using a urine test kit.

HCG has several functions, one of which is promoting a normal and healthy pregnancy. It has been found out to activate fat as a source of energy, and a treatment in obesity. The use of HCG in medical administration of obesity was based on the extensive study entitled, “Pounds & Inches.” Dr. A.T.W. Simeons, a widely acclaimed physician, publicized the report in 1954. He discovered that HCG can safely help accelerate weight loss, as it resets the hypothalamus and changes how the body burns fat.

The research exposed that there are three types of fat in the body, namely: structural, reserve, and abnormal fats. Structural fats fill gaps to create a barrier around the body’s organs and bones. Reserve fats are used by the body as stocked nutritional income and as fuel for muscles and body temperature regulation. On the other hand, abnormal fats are actually trapped and should only be available for nutritional reserves. Simeons hypothesized that HCG unlocks the body’s capacity to burn abnormal or trapped fats. Several studies prove that the said hormone enhances fat loss when combined with a low calorie diet and as part of a weight management plan.

HCG has been approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for some medical conditions, but not for weight loss. On the contrary, there are several published medical studies which document the effectiveness of the said hormone in weight loss. HCG was developed as treatment for infertility in women, although the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) enforced strict regulations on advertising. Federal regulations permit medications to be used “off label” to treat other illnesses or symptoms on top of the ones for which the drug is approved.

Patients who pursue HCG diet as an avenue for losing weight should be carefully screened and monitored from the beginning of the diet plan back to eating normal foods. HCG diet does not show healthy eating, consequently change in behavior has to be effectively learned to ensure the patient’s excess weight does not return upon going back to healthy, sufficient calorie consumption. Patients who are guided by dedicated physicians also benefit from improvement in reducing the indicators of disease, such as elevated blood pressure, blood glucose levels, C-reactive protein, and total cholesterol levels. The diet should not be used as a quick-fix or crash diet.
